How a Week of Stillness Led Me to My First Altar
This is my very first altar, which came into my life through a chain of unexpected (and somewhat mystical) events. I’ve only been working with crystals for a few months, but the journey has been surprisingly profound.
It started after I returned home from a weeklong advanced retreat with Dr. Joe Dispenza. I was inspired, aligned, and energetically lit up when I returned home, and then, I got Covid. While sequestered in my bedroom sanctuary, I stumbled upon a Gaia Network series called Crystals: Healing, Manifestation, and Alchemy. I was transfixed. The beauty, geometry, and energetic intelligence of crystals opened something unexpected in me. What began as a quiet curiosity quickly turned into a passionate pursuit.
I started acquiring a few stones I felt drawn to. Then I discovered Judy Hall’s book on Crystal Grids, and suddenly, I was arranging them in intentional formations, feeling the subtle shifts they created in my space and spirit. The grids became a daily practice, but I longed for something more grounded and sacred to support my evolving meditation practice.

That’s when I found Cosmic Merchant on Etsy. Daren’s handcrafted altars radiated care, craftsmanship, and intention. When I saw the two-tier design, I immediately knew it was exactly what I’d been searching for. I loved it so much, I texted my sister a photo. She bought one too.
Now, my altar lives in my bedroom, anchoring my practice and offering a quiet space for reflection, intention-setting, and connection. It holds crystals, candles, oracle cards, and small objects that carry meaning. I cleanse it intuitively and adjust it as my energy shifts.

Though I’ve only just begun this relationship with altars and crystals, it feels like coming home. This space reflects both where I am on my journey and the future I’m creating.
